Show Overview

Venue

The Mick Jagger Centre, Dartford.

Costumes

We purchase costumes for every child taking part in the show. We try and keep costumes costs as low as possible. Your child will be provided with an envelope detailing the cost of their costumes. Please ensure payment is made by cash/bank transfer before the show weekend.

Tickets

You will be informed when tickets go on sale. We always endeavour to keep ticket prices as low as possible. Ticket sales cover the cost of the theatre and dressing rooms to hire.

Helpers/Volunteers

An event like this cannot run without the help of parents, family and friends. All children backstage need taking care of and the show couldn’t go ahead without all the brilliant helpers. We do 2 shows so that helpers can volunteer at one and still get to see their child perform in the other show and don’t miss out.

Availability

All performers must be free on Sunday 19th May, Sunday 2nd June (no little ones), Saturday 8th June and Sunday 9th June 2024.

  • Sunday 19 May & Sunday 02 June 2024 – Full school rehearsal – Usual lessons hall
  • Saturday 08 June – Dress rehearsal & performance – Mick Jagger Centre
  • Sunday 09 June – Performance – Mick Jagger Centre

All dancers perform in both shows. Rehearsal times will vary depending on age. We hope that you agree that this is a great opportunity for the children to perform in a fabulous production and enjoy the experience of performing on a professional stage and everything involved. The children gain far more than just the performances; they have great fun backstage, the build up to the show is so exciting and the friendships that are formed are so lovely to see.

Photos/Filming

As always, the show will be filmed. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch by email admin@newelthamdance.co.uk

Full School Rehearsal at the Hall (19 May & 02 June)

ALL STUDENTS PERFORMING IN THE SHOW MUST ATTEND BOTH REHEARSALS

Little ones who have been notified separately to arrive at 10:30am on Sunday 19 May 2024

All Other Students

Please arrive at 09:00 and stay until 12:00 finish.

  • All students should arrive in their uniform as they would for their lessons with hair up and off face.
  • Dance shoes should be in bags, please do not wear them outside!
  • No costumes, hair or makeup required.
  • Books and activities can be brought. Nothing noisy, no felt tip pens or iPads/tablets please!
  • Plenty of water
  • Snacks – no nuts, nothing sticky or messy

What to Bring - 08 & 09 June 2024

ALL STUDENTS WILL PERFROM IN BOTH SHOWS, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

Makeup

All students can wear makeup as the stage lights can wash out their complexion. We
recommend students wear: foundation base, bronzer, coloured eyeshadow, blush and red lipstick.

No jewellery is to be worn including earrings.

Hair

We try to keep this as simple as we can:

  • A high slick ponytail for modern/street/gymnastic dance/contemporary/Tap.
  • A bun is required for ballet, with pins and a hair net.
  • For hair that is too short for buns/ponytails, please either do half up half down or a style
that will keep hair off the face and is slick/neat.
  • Boys can use gel etc to keep hair off the face.

Shoes

Wear usual dance shoes as students would as part of their class uniform.

  • Street dance – trainers
  • Modern – jazz shoes/black ballet shoes
  • Ballet – ballet shoes as normal
  • Contemporary – bare feet/foot thongs
  • Tap – tap shoes as normal
  • Gymnastic Dance – bare feet

Costumes

Costumes will be handed out in the lessons before the show, once paid for. They should be taken home, named and hung on a hanger. Costumes should be brought to the theatre on hangers. They can be left at the theatre overnight to the Sunday performance and then are yours to keep.

All students will be required to wear a black NEDS t-shirt or plain black t-shirt for the finale. This should be worn with black shorts/leggings/joggers and trainers/jazz shoes.

Arriving at the Theatre on Dress Rehearsal and Show Day (08/09 June)

All students
should arrive in their own comfortable clothes or NEDS T-shirts/Hoodies and own footwear. Please DO NOT arrive in costume or in dance shoes, they must all be clean for the stage. Please arrive with hair and make-up done (no lipstick yet!) so you are ready for the stage.

Personal Belongings on Show Day

Please make sure everything is named so items do not go missing. A labelled box with a lid for personal belongings works well for individuals in dressing rooms. All belongings can be popped away and easily accessed throughout the day.
Something like this is suitable – 25L Silver Plastic Storage Box | Dunelm (smaller boxes may work for smaller children in less dances).

What Goes in the Show Box/Bag?

  • Packed lunch/dinner for after dress rehearsal on Saturday 8 June 2024
  • Snacks (no nuts or sticky/messy foods that can stain costumes)
  • Plenty of water
  • Zip up top to wear over costumes when eating/drinking between dances
  • Make up
  • Hairspray
  • Hairbrush, pins, hairbands
  • Dance shows and socks as detailed by costume list
  • Books/activities for younger children. No felt tip pens and no iPads/tablets/valuables
